IS THE TEA PARTY MOVEMENT DESTINED FOR FAILURE?

I hope this doesn’t come across as self-serving, but I have something for you to view that I think is important.

As a friend of mine once said “something’s are better felt, than telt.” This is one of those things.

I have been writing a regular commentary for nearly five years and I am honored to have developed a group of loyal readers, some who actually enjoy what I have to say, and I appreciate the feedback, both pro and con, I receive on a regular basis.

But this one is going to be a little different.

I have been given the opportunity to speak at several Tea Parties here in the Midwest. I guess word travels fast that I have something to say that is worth hearing.

Initially, many of the organizers were hesitant to invite me because of the strong Christian message that I deliver. In their desire to obtain “unity” they were fearful that a message addressing the “moral issues” would be “divisive.”

“Many of us agree with you, Coach, but not all of the Tea Party folks are Christian. We love the enthusiasm you bring but we are wondering if you can tone down the ‘religion’ a little bit? We don’t want to offend any of our members. It is hard enough to get people to work together.”

I always try and calm their fears, but my answer is direct. “No sir, not only won’t I tone it done, I can’t tone it down. To change the message is to change the impact. Trust me; I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the reaction of the crowd. My message will unify, not divide. Americans are starving for someone to tell them the Truth.”

The only thing that can unify this nation is a sense of common values. Those values are built upon the pillars of Christianity. Only a return to the “Faith of our Fathers” will give us a chance at survival.

Our problems are not political. They are spiritual...moral. That is something Mom and Pop American understand. They don’t want to live in a nation where they are forced to follow Christianity, but they do want to see those values handed down to their children.

In their hearts, even those who never darken the doorway of a church know that those values are, well, so American. Don’t lie...don’t steal...don’t kill...do unto others…they know that those common values are the glue that keeps this nation patched together.

And they know those values are under attack. They know that this is not “one nation under Allah”...and they know which God the Pledge is referring to when they recite it. They know that the 10 Commandments are hard to live up to, they struggle in their own lives to follow them, but they understand their importance in helping America remain free.

For what it is worth, in my humble opinion, the Tea Party movement is destined for failure if at the center of the movement is not a push to return to the Christian values we all were raised with. It is that Christian culture that has made us strong and not the “multi-culture” that the leftists have tried to tell us was our strength. Strength is in unity, never in diversity. A diverse group of people unified by common values is E Pluribus Unum...“out of many, one."
