Sufficiency of Scripture

Our very good friends, the Castilles, have lent us the c.d.s to the Sufficiency of Scripture Conference that was held in Cincinnati, OH, December, 2009.
So far I have just heard the first two. EXCELLENT!
Mr. Scott Brown is the speaker on the first c.d. that I listened to and Mr. Doug Phillips is the speaker on the second one I listened to.
They are both very good speakers and teachers and so on target with the subject that they tackle. The truth of the Word of God and it's sufficiency for all of life is my passion.
By God's power and grace, by the One who has quickened me from my spiritual death, I have lived my life according to the truth that the Lord has revealed to me that is in His Word.
My disclaimer is, "I know that I am not perfect and no, I don't think I have arrived."
I have been accused in thinking that I have "arrived" when I have a strong conviction about what the Bible is teaching.
Three passages of scripture come to mind when I listened to those first 2 c.d.s.
III John 3,4 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Ephesians6:10-17 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
Put on the whole armour of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

As for III John 3,4: As a parent I have no greater joy than my own fleshly children walking in the truth of God's Word. It saddens me when they are not.
As for Heb. 4:12: The sharp word of God should convict us and sometimes it is so sharp it cuts us and we avoid it. It will reveal what is in our heart.
And for Eph. 6:10-17: That armour is something we have to have on all the time. We are in a spiritual battle with God's enemy, Satan that fallen angel that masquerades himself as an angel of light, the deceiver. We are to have the truth (v.14) , the word of God (the sword,v.17) in order to battle the deception. As God works through his chosen people, Satan works through people also, like the wolves that arise in the church speaking false doctrine (Acts 20:27-30)
In I Timothy 4:13, Paul exhorts Timothy to give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. This is truth. This is the word of God. This is the Sword.
The churches today do not teach sound doctrine. The word of God is handled deceitfully
(2 Cor. 4:2).
They walk not in the sufficiency of scripture.
Ephesians 6:17 says the sword of the Spirit is the word of God.
So if the word of God is taught in it's entire truth, the Spirit is going to use it as a sword.
Maybe as we are listening to the word of God being taught, it will just cut off our ear, and it won't hurt as much as if it divided the joints and the marrow. :)
